The Lady Of Shallot

Artist - John William Waterhouse
Title - The Lady of Shalott
Painted in 1888
John William Waterhouse bases this painting on "The Lady of Shalott" by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The painting depicts the following lines:
"And down the river's dim expanse
Like some bold seer in a trance,
Seeing all his own mischance -
With a glassy countenance
Did she look to Camelot.
And at the closing of the day
She loosed the chain, and down she lay;
the broad stream bore her far away,
The Lady of Shalott."

The painting has many similarities to the text because it is based upon Tennyson's writings in Part IV of "The Lady Of Shallot." Earlier in the text, it tells of the lady painting her name on the front of the boat, and in the picture there is.....
