The story takes place in Petra and around the world. The Remnant is taking place after the rapture. The Judah-ites are placed in Petra and are being protected from Nicolae Carpathia (the antichrist) and his evil powers. The Judah-ites around the world are waiting for the Glorious Appearing; most of them are in Petra. Petra is mostly all rock, its big enough to hold millions of people. During the time in the book, people in Petra get a supply of food they get from the ground each day called manna. Water comes from a near spring that had just appeared. Petra is protected by Gods Miracles.
There is a group of people that try and mostly succeed in their missions. Every mission they do is for the good of the Judah-ites. This group is called The Tribulation Force. The captain of the Tribulation Force is Rayford Steele; he was left behind in the rapture and lost his wife and son. He has a daughter named Chloe Williams. She is the leader of Co-ops that also helps the Juhda-ites and she is one of the main Tribulation Force members. Chloe is married to Cameron "Buck" Williams. Buck used to work for the Global Community News Letter. After he became a fugitive of Carpathia he made a cyber magazine for believers in Christ named The Truth. Buck was also an original member of the Tribulation Force. Now there are more people in the Tribulation Force and also do dangerous missions.
Nicolae Carpathia is the ruler of the world at this time. He is the so called Potentate and god. He controls the Global Community and tries to have the whole world worship him and his image. He is the Anti-Christ and wants to kill all believers in Christ. Carpathia has a right hand man named Leon Fortunato. He is the False Prophet. The world calls Leon "The Most High Reverend" and he is clothed in robes, tricking the world from how evil he is. The same with Carpathia. Carpathia was assassinated and rose 3 days from the dead but what people don't know is that Satan is living in him, now he is more evil than ever.
Captain Steele is in Petra with millions of others who are being protected by God. In the beginning of the book it started with 2 bombs falling toward Petra that Carpathia sent. Carpathia wants to kill Tsion Ben Judah, Chaim, and the other millions of believers that are hiding from the evil Carpathia. The whole world is watching via internet and Television, seeing the bombs fall. The people in Petra have faith but aren't sure in what to expect. Finally the 2 huge bombs hit dead on. Everyone was engulfed in flames but they felt no burn. All they could do was watch while the flames covered their bodies. About 2 minutes later, people where dancing in the flames and praising God for the miracle that just happened. Carpathia saw what happened and found that no one died, so he blamed the pilots. He killed them for missing which they didn't do. The book goes to 2 years later where the rivers and the ocean were already turned into blood in the previous books. God then lifted the blood from the ocean but not the rivers. When the believers drink the blood it turns into fresh cold water. To the non-believers it was always blood. When the Tribulation Force goes on missions the Global Community tries to shoot them down but the bullets, missiles, time, and money are wasted. God protects everyone that believes and they don't get harmed. Carpathia is trying to get drinkable water but no matter how hard he tries he will never succeed. The people in Petra will wait till the Glorious Appearing in Petra.
The Remnant is the best book I have ever read! I will have to wait for a whole year until the next one comes out from the Left Behind Series. I think the author is trying to show how the Tribulation will be but with some added characters to make a story. He puts it into story form from the facts that he gets from the Bible.
