Are We Civilized?

Summary:   Tries to answer the philosophical question: Are we civilized?


As the world I grow up in evolves and develops fast into a place of technology and intellect more and more questions arise of this civilization. Are we truly civilized? Are we really the educated people that we led other nations to see us as? Are we as superior as we have set ourselves up to believe?

Why would one suggest such a thing? Of course we are civilized respond many people and they are outraged by the thought of being so called "savages." But many writers supported this idea of the human race being more fanatical than we let ourselves on to know. Writers like Shirley Jackson (particularly in The Lottery), Mark Twain (The Lowest Animal), and William Golding (Lord of the Flies) all suggest that we are not refined but deep inside we are.....
