Summary:   Analysis of Schindler's List and the Holocaust.


Winner of seven Academy Awards and masterfully directed by renowned director, Steven Spielberg, Schindler's List depicts the brutality of the Germans in their attempt to eradicate of the Jewish population. Contained within this film is a rich tapestry of symbolic images including candles, water and colour. Numerous symbolic events portrayed in this film all lead to images and thoughts relating to the hope or lack of hope with regards to the Jews.

Candles are used to signify, the Jewish way of life. We see this in the opening scene where a Jewish family is preparing for the Sabbath ceremony. Candles play a significant role in their ceremony. The candles then fade slowly and the camera follows the smoke upwards. This scene ignites the image of the crematorium in which many Jews perished. As long as the candles.....
