Summary:   Compares the events of the Tet Offensive to the presidential election of '68


1968 is among the most influential years in American history. It was a year of civil unrest, assassinations of prominent activists, and political uncertainty. Many events took place to help shape the presidential election that year.

January 30, 1968 the Viet Cong launched a large scale attack on South Vietnamese cities and villages. The attack, known as the Tet Offensive, was coordinated with the Vietnamese Lunar New Year in an attempt to catch South Vietnamese and American forces off guard. The attack was a surprise, however, South Vietnamese and American forces quickly countered and drove back the Viet Cong in a matter of days.
