To Gain Power

Mussolini came into Italy at a difficult time. People everywhere were poor and desperate. The unemployment rate had skyrocketed after WWI. Many people began to support the communists and look for a strong leader to change their country and improve the economy. Mussolini made a point to prove that he was just the man they were looking for. He was a strong speaker and used propaganda to make himself look powerful. Many of the images shown of him throughout Italy were fake, but people didn't find this out until much later. Mussolini introduced fascism to the people of Italy. They were so desperate at this point that they looked to Mussolini and fascism to solve all their problems. The Italians saw fascism as a symbol of order and strength.
