Legislation

Summary:   Must God be taken out of public schools?

If I could change any piece of legislation, I would go back to June 25, 1962 and reverse the ruling that was made on that day. June 16, 1962 marked the official start of a slow moral decline of the citizens of the United States of America. On June 25, 1962 God was taken out of public schools. The Supreme Court passed a low that forbade state officials from composing an official state prayer that was to be recited at the beginning of each school day. The students were not forced to recite this prayer and were allowed to leave while it was recited if they wished.

This law in a sense took God out of the classroom. Teachers were no longer allowed to carry a Bible to school with them or say anything to their students about God or His Word. James Fob Jr., in his 1998 article answering the question "Is the Supreme Court Tramping on the Religious Freedom of the States"" points out that, "When President Reagan was shot in 1980 and his life was hanging in the balance, any teacher who stopped class to lead students in prayer for the life of the President, could have been sued under certain U. S. Supreme Court cases." Fob also says, "Even President Lincoln encouraged public prayer during our 'National Crisis' known as the Civil War." Our country was founded on Biblical principles. Our constitution, which has lasted longer than any other country's constitution, was written by godly men and is based on Biblical principles.

However, this ruling was just the first of many detrimental rulings. Shortly after prayer was banned in the classroom, Bible reading was also forbidden in schools. The Bible is man's source of authority. We are to look to it for guidance and direction. This great book also gives an accurate account of history. The Bible tells us where the world came from and how we were created. It gives the history of many of the people groups that lived long ago. Furthermore, the stories in the Bible have been "proven" to be true by many scholars. However, the best proof that the Bible is true is simply that the Bible says that it is true.

Shortly after the school prayer was abolished, our governmental officials passed legislation to take the Ten Commandments were taken off the walls of the school buildings. Children no longer saw the words "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, honor thy father and thy mother, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not commit adultery, and thou shalt not steal" on their school walls. Students would no longer see these words each day or be reminded that these things are wrong and sins against God.

Finally, our Supreme Court legalized the teaching of evolution. Teaching evolution degrades humankind to the level of an animal by saying that humans "evolved" from some little ameba that after millions of years became a monkey and then eventually became a man. The theory of evolution denies that each human being is "...fearfully and wonderfully made:" (Psalm 139:14). In addition, it denies that God created each person for a special reason.

Most children and teens have a serious lack of responsibility, discipline, respect for authority, morals, and they tend to not care if something is right or wrong. Most just do what they feel is alright for them. Teens at a horrifying rate are shooting and killing themselves and others. These things are simply the results of a lack of fear or reverence toward God.
