The diary of Anne Frank takes you on a journey back to the early nineteenth century, when Nazi forces occupied Germany during World War II.
In this book, Anne Frank writes everything in her diary. She writes a brief story of her life. Some of her family was able to escape to the United States. After May 1940, Hitler's Anti-Jewish laws became more strict. The Jewish people were forced to wear a yellow six-pointed star, they were forbidden to ride bicycles, trains, and cars. They also had limited shopping hours, a curfew, and they were forbidden to play sports, enter a place of entertainment, and visit Christians.
On Sunday, July 12, 1942, the S.S sent a call-up notice to her father and her sister Margot for their deportation of a concentration camp. They have the move to a hiding place. They will be staying inside a secret place called the Secret Annexe that is found inside Mr. Franks office building. Anne is afraid of the quiet at night. She is afraid they will be caught and shot. The Frank family shares the Secret Annexe with the Van Daans family. For a while, they don't get along, but after a while things simmer down.
Each day they live in fear of being found, and every time their door bell rings, they think it is the S.S coming to take them to a concentration camp even though it is almost always the post man, or someone who works in Mr. Frank's office.
In her diary, Anne talks about how her Jewish friends are being taken away by the dozens. They are being squeezed into cattle trucks and being taken away to Westerbork, a concentration camp in Drente, Holland. Anne is constantly hearing all the horrid things that they are doing to the Jews in the camps. She also hears stories from one of the women who work in Mr. Frank's office building.
The Frank's take in an eighth person into the Secret Annexe. They will not take in any more Van Daans, but they did take in a dentist named Albert Dussel. Anne doesn't like him, because he doesn't take her seriously, and she finds him boring.
On March 18, 1943 Turkey supposedly enters the war, but the next day, they found out that it was a false statement. For a while, things stay the same and there are just continuous stories about the Jewish people being sent to concentration camps. Then on June 6, 1944, its D-Day and the invasion begins. The English land on the French coast, and the French cities are invaded. On June 23, 1944, the English attack Cherbourg, and the Russians join the offensive. Then on July 21, somebody tired to assassinate Hitler. Then on August 4, 1944, the Secret Annexe was raided and they were all taken to Dutch and German concentration camps.
