Most of us are taught not to care about the value of money, while others may think that money has a lot of power. We believe that money gives us ever-lasting happiness. That's why through out our live we struggle to earn money. But can money really give us ever lasting happiness? In the novel Middlemarch, three things show that social and political influences make it difficult to rise above one's station in life. The three reasons are class, money, and greed.

In the beginning of Middlemarch, Dr Lydgate's meets this beautiful naive girl, Rosamond Vincy. She is accustomed to an expensive lifestyle." Think of this girl brought up in luxury-in too worldly a way, I am sorry to say-what will she do on a small income"" (pg. 381) She marries him because she thinks.....
