Summary:   About Emily's mother and how she feels she was a disgrace of a mother to her child.


"I Stand here Ironing"

In this story the mother is reflecting back on her life. She believes that she has made mistakes in the past that hindered her daughters' childhood. She feels that if she had only been around more Emily would have been happier and gotten the attention and care she needed as a small child. This story was about a mother's struggle to make sure her daughter had a good childhood, enough attention, was looked after by trusted people, and stayed healthy and happy.

To begin with, the mother only wanted the best for her daughter. She hated the fact that she had to work and leave her daughter with the woman downstairs. She had to work hard hours, not see her daughter, and pay for her daughters numerous doctor.....
