Summary: This essay is about Robespierre and his involvement in the French Revolution.
There were many reasons for the French Revolution. The main cause was that France's citizens shared unequal amounts of power, money, and land. France separated its people into three groups, called estates. The First Estate, which consisted of the clergy, had the most money and owned the most land. The clergy also had the greatest political power. The Second Estate consisted of those people of nobility. They owned less land and had less money than the First Estate, but had almost an equal amount of political power. The Third Estate, also the most populated group, consisted of merchants and farmers. This group of citizens was unable to own land, had an extremely limited amount of political say, and lived in poverty. As time passed the Third Estate grew angrier and angrier with their government. They began to revolt and over a period of time the French Revolution began...
