Audie Murphy

Summary:   Why Audie Murphy was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.


It was 1941, a time when the world was afraid for its life, when men had to fight to keep humanity and justice in the world. Hitler's Nazis had taken control of most of Europe and parts of Russia when the United States got involved. Our attendance was very much unwelcome by the Germans, who dreaded the idea of fighting us and the Russians. Our presence was felt by many Germans when a soldier named Murphy came to their shores. Audie Murphy was a courageous soldier in World War II, whose actions on the outskirts of Holtzwihr single-handedly saved the lives of his men and defeated the Germans.

Audie Murphy enlisted into the infantry in 1942. (Dingus, 262) He was only 5' 6" and weighed 112 pounds, which was why the Marines and the Paratroopers would not.....
