Summary: This was my prompt:Tso ya' is an important concept in Zuni life. If the Zuni just lived in their pueblo separate from other cultures, it might have one function. But they live enmeshed in the United States, among many other peoples with their own cultures. They actively participate in may areas of national culture, yet Zuni is still important. Based on your readings, how would you say the concept of tso ya' relates to the processes of accommodation, assimilation, and cultural defense and resistance, as well as cultural segmentation that characterize much of contemporary Zuni life?


Even though the Zuni continually face the pressure to be assimilated into mainstream U.S. society, they continue to; retain their ideals of beauty (tso ya'), accommodate new ideas, all the while, showing an amazing ability to adjust to change. Thus retaining the central core of their culture and society. The Zuni Live enmeshed in the United States. At times, their very way of life has been threatened, first with the coming of the Spanish, and continuing up to the present with the U.S. yet the Zuni have shown an amazing ability to adjust to change, retaining the central core of their culture and society. A key element of the Zuni is the idea of beauty which ties into every aspect of their lives.
