Summary: This essay describes the importance of a citizen's right to vote and how voting is affected in modern times.
Early in our nation's history, many restrictions were made on the issue of voting. Now, though, most restrictions have been lifted and only a few remain that limit the possible voters. However, many eligible voters choose not to use the power of their vote, for unknown reasons. The ones that do vote commonly fall into stereotypical categories that help to determine voting behavior through the identity of the person.

One of the categories that could help to establish one's voting behavior is their occupation and income level. Professionals and businesspeople tend to be wealthier and vote Republican. On the other hand, manual laborers, factory workers, and union members along with those not as wealthy tend to vote Democratic. This separation between the wealthier people and those who are less wealthy occurs because people with different incomes encounter different needs.
