Summary:   This is a character analysis and it discusses the plot summary as well as an opinion on the protagonist in the novel.


In this hopeless and depressing novel, all of the main characters were wronged in some way, and suffered some how. I believe that Ethan Frome, himself, suffered and was wronged the most. Ethan had hopes and aspirations, but never had an opportunity to attain any of them. Although he may have come close, in certain instances, he never completely fulfilled anything he started, or dreamed of fulfilling.

Ethan seemed to have begun with a promising life but he was hindered in continuing his dream of becoming an engineer. He came close to the idea; he even began his studying, but had to put his dreams on hold to return home to help his family.
