Effects of Slavery

Summary: Essay describes how slavery affected colonial American life.
The first American colonists arrived on the coasts on America in 1607. As time went on, and the colonies grew, colonists found that there was a high demand for labor. Slavery was the cheapest and easiest form of labor for the colonists, so colonists chose to institute it. There was a variety of slaves but most were from Africa. The Slaves started at their homeland in Africa and traveled on ships in the worst of conditions only to be auctioned off for an inhumane price. The slaves that were lucky enough to survive the trip were then brought to plantations, where they would spend the rest of their lives working the fields for no pay. Those who were enslaved had a major impact on colonial America. The enslavement of African Americans during the early years of colonization significantly affected the political system, economics, and social fabric of colonial life...
