The Pearl

Summary:   Essay depicts how greed changes the characters in "The Pearl."


Kino finding the pearl changed the book and it tossed and turned Kino's life. It changed how the town treated him, it changed Juana's and Kino's relationship, and it changed how he acted towards the town and others.

Having Kino find the pearl changed how the town treated Kino. Before Kino found the pearl the townspeople respected him. An example of this is that when the baby got stung, and started crying all the neighbors rushed over to see what was going on. After the finding of the pearl if they heard someone crying at Kino's house, they would probably go over there slowly and just figure they could pay their way out and wouldn't really worry about it. Overall I think the townspeople lost respect for him during this incident.
