Summary:   Essay analyzes the character of Atticus from the story "To Kill A Mockingbird."


Psychologist Erich Fromm used the term generative to describe the highest level of mental health. A person of this personality type could be said to be "fully functioning" in that the person has the vision to see the world as it really is, the understanding to see the reasons why things are as they are, and the strength to create a better world for everyone. These qualities can be seen in the character of Atticus Finch in Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird. One of the most striking aspects of this marvelous character is the way he raises his children. He does not rant and rave, demand obedience, or worry about what others think.
