Euthanasia Should Be Legal

Summary: Euthanasia provides the means for individuals who are suffering from incurable, painful, and humiliating diseases to die with dignity.

The term "euthanasia" comes from the Greek word meaning "good death." In modern usage, the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition defines euthanasia as:

"The act or practice of ending the life of an individual suffering from a terminal illness or an incurable condition, as by lethal injection or the suspension of extraordinary medical treatment."

Essentially, euthanasia is mercy killing. Euthanasia provides the means for individuals who are suffering from incurable, painful, and humiliating diseases to die with dignity. Yet, why is it that it is only legal in a few states and countries such as Oregon and the Netherlands? Moreover, euthanasia is considered and tried as murder in many states.
