Summary:   The following is a comparison of Martin Luther King's speech "I have a Dream" and the play "A Raisin in the Sun."


Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister who conducted a speech from the steps of the Lincoln memorial in front of thousands of people. As he pleaded for equality through his "I have a dream speech", both blacks and whites were inspired by it. He lets his people know there is a "check to be cashed" which is a metaphor for justice being served. The play A Raisin in the Sun can be compared to Martin Luther King's famous speech. The Younger family is exposed in the play, and is very much related to the people who were touched by Martin Luther King's speech. The Younger family is a black family trying to accomplish the "American Dream," but face many hindrances along the way. They are living in the ghetto of Chicago. The play.....
