Summary: This is an essay that discourages the building of the Three Gorges Dam in China.
In China, on the year of 1919 a man named Sun Yet-Sen had an idea. His idea was to create a dam at the Three Gorges, along the Yangtze River, for power generation purposes. Although, the idea was shelved due to unfavorable political and economic conditions. This plan was brought back up in 1954 by Mao Tse-Tung, after major floods that resulted in many casualties occurred. Again, the idea was forgotten because of the cost it would take to construct it. In the late 1980's the dam again was brought up and this time it was final. The construction of the dam started in late 1993 and is expected to be finished in the year 2009. The Three Gorges Dam, although well under way, will not benefit China because it will be horrible for the economy, environment, wildlife, China's people, and it will be a major hazard.
