The primary cause of the American Revolution is a topic subject to heated debate between many historians. Arguments have been made supporting economic, political, and social motives of the war. Resentment continued to grow in the colonies between the British and the Colonists, eventually leading to the war for independence in the Americas. The British policy of mercantilism, the Currency Act passed by Parliament, and the French and Indian War, all portray the economic foundation of the colonist's thirst for independence. In addition to mounting economic grievances, political factors such as the Boston Massacre, and social conditions such as the blatant contempt between the colonists and the British also contributed to the Revolutionary War. Despite the mounting political and social factors, the primary cause of the American Revolution was the escalating economic tension.
