Summary:   Essay consists of an evaluation of the domestic policies of Joseph Stalin.


Joseph Vissarionovich Djugashvili alias Stalin was the successor of Lenin. After Lenin's death Stalin got rid of rivals such as Trotsky and was able to become the leader of the USSR. Stalin believed that Russia had to modernize herself quickly in order to survive. "We are fifty or a hundred years behind the advanced countries. We must make good this distance in ten years. Either we do it or we shall be crushed.", proclaimed Stalin. The prompt modernization of the USSR was Stalin's aim, which he wished to accomplish by collectivization and industrialization. Stalin wanted to impose collectivization through which the state would buy grain at a cheap price and would sell it to the consumers at a higher price. This would raise revenue for the government and would be used to finance industrialization. The process.....
