Changing Perspectives

Summary: Essay discusses the issue of changing perspectives and how this is accomplished in the poetry of Peter Skrzynecki and Hannah Robert.
The way we see our surroundings and the world is said to be our perspective. Our perspective of people and events is influenced by factors such as age, cultural background, upbringing and personal experience. Three texts which explore this idea are the poems "Feliks Skrzynecki", "10 Mary Street" written by Peter Skrzynecki from Immigrant Chronicle and "Sky High"by Hannah Robert from the Stimulus Booklets.

In the poem "eliks Skrzynecki" we see a perspective being influenced by upbringing and cultural background. The poet talks about his father. Since his upbringing is largely influenced by Australian culture, the poet becomes more assimilated and his opinions and ideas differ from his father. The father has to accept the transformation in his son and even though he can see this occurring "Dumb prophet" he has no power to stop it "watched me pegging my tents further and further south of Hadrian's wall...
