"The Removalist"
One must agree after reading the play `The Removalists', that it is quite an entertaining play. The play `The Removalists' is entertaining through its conflict (which is essential to the play as it often leads to violence), through its black and bleak humour, and through its dialogue of the Australian colloquial and vernacular.
In the play `The Removalists' conflict occurs in many areas of human life, such as sexual, use of authority, and through human attitudes. It is through this conflict that violence often occurs.
The play opens up in an ordinary suburban police station, where the audience is introduced to two main characters, Sergent Simmonds and Constable Ross. It is during the opening scene that the audience becomes entertained through the black and bleak humour of Simmonds interrogating Ross. This black and bleak humour shown by Simmonds becomes slightly humorous and comical. A quote that helps support the above statements is:
