American public figure (born Sept. 5, 1921 , Houston, Texas—died April 26, 2007, Washington, D.C.) as president (1966–2004) of the Motion Picture Association of America, was a lobbyist and publicist for the film industry and the brainchild behind the creation of the film-rating system that assigned labels (currently G, PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17) for audience suitability. Valenti, who worked on the Texas vice presidential campaign of Lyndon B.

Johnson, was hired almost immediately as Johnson's special aide after the assassination of Pres. John F. Kennedy. Valenti witnessed Johnson's swearing in as president aboard Air Force One. Valenti was especially remembered for his ardent support of Johnson, saying, “I sleep each night a little better, a little more confidently, because Lyndon Johnson is my president.” Besides his memoir, This Time, This Place: My Life in War, the White House, and Hollywood (2007), Valenti penned several others books, including one about Johnson's White House years, a volume devoted to public speaking, and a political novel.
