Charles I of Naples Summary

(born 1288, Naples, Kingdom of Naples—died July 16, 1342, Visegárd, Hung.) King of Hungary (1301, 1308–42). He claimed the Hungarian throne with papal approval and was crowned in 1301, but his claim was disputed, and he was not recognized as king until 1308.
