The first high priest of the Israelites in Jerusalem after it was conquered by David. Zadok is a Canaanite name, not Israelite. He was probably the High Priest of a Canaanite cult in Jerusalem, but kept on as high priest (Cohen haGodol) of the "Yahweh" cult by David, in order to keep the locals on side after Jerusalem was captured from the time of Kings David and Solomon - See Zadok (High Priest).
