Suciu is a Romanian surname. The word suciu, used in Transylvania, is a synonym for cojocar. A cojocar is one who produces or sells the cojoc, a sleeved sheepskin coat with fur on the inside, worn especially in rural areas. Suciu derives from the Hungarian szőcs, although those who bear this name are uniformly Romanian. The name originated in Maramureş and gradually spread south until the Braşov area.
