The Earls Fitzwilliam; The 3rd Baron Fitzwilliam, of Liffer alias Lifford in the County of Donegal was created Earl Fitzwilliam, of the County of Tyrone, in the Peerage of Ireland with the subsidiary title Viscount Miltown, in the County of Westmeath in 1716. In 1742 the 3rd Earl Fitzwilliam was created Baron Fitzwilliam, of Milton, in the Peerage of Great Britain, and in 1746 was further created Earl Fitzwilliam, of Norborough and Viscount Milton, all in the County of Northampton. These peerages became extinct on the death of the 10th Earl in 1979.
