Bentenjima (弁天島?), alternatively Bentenshima in Japanese or Benten Island in English, is a popular name used for Japanese islands, used for more than 50 of them. A Hindu goddess Saraswati, called Benzaiten (弁才天?) in Japanese Buddhism or Shinto, is worshipped as a goddess of water, among other things. As a guardian of fishers, she is enshrined in many Japanese islets.
