 Viewing/Downloading Study Guides

Q: How can I find and view the content that I purchased?

The most important thing is to first make sure that you are logged in. You will know if you are logged in because in the top right part of all pages, it will either say "Login" which means that you are currently not logged in, or it will display your user name/email address. If you try to log in and are unable to log in, please view are help menu on Logging In.

In order to find information that was purchased, log in and then click on "My Account." If a single study guide was purchased, you will be able to see the link and go directly to the content.

If there is a subscription, there will be a link to the content from the subscription.

Q: How can I download a study pack or study guide?

Instructions for a study pack: (example: http://www.bookrags.com/Acid_rain)

Study packs can not be downloaded in one lump, the individual study guides within the study pack need to be downloaded separately. However, it is possible to print all of the content for a study pack in one click.

On the top of a study pack page is an image of a printer: When clicked, a new page opens up that is a printer-friendly page. Please note that this page is the entire study pack in a small font and is single spaced to save paper, ink, and trees. This is why it will appear shorter than the estimated page length listed. It's the same content, just more compact for ease of printing.

In order to download the files in PDF or Word format, it is necessary click on each study guide individually. This is best explained through an example.

On the acid rain link, clicking one of the green links "Acid Rain Summary" in Environmental Encyclopedia links brings up the single study guide page for that one study guide. It's only 5 pages in all, out of the 135 pages that BookRags has on acid rain.

On the Acid Rain study guide within the Environmental Encyclopedia there is the option to download in PDF or Word as well as an option to view the print-friendly content. To download the acid rain Environmental Encyclopedia study guide click on the red PDF button or the blue Word button depending on which type of download you prefer.

PDFs tend to be better in terms of printing. However, the Word file is a better choice if the file will be used to take additional notes within the text. For example, the Word download allows the downloader to physically type into the summary text itself while the PDF prevents it.

Q: Why is the page length stated different from what's on the downloaded file?

We list the exact number of words and approximate page count on all pages.

The 3 downloadable files (printer friendly, PDF, and Word) do not each have the same page length as our stated approximate length on the study guide, which is why we give the exact number of words, but no absolute number of pages. We provide the approximate length as an estimate to help you have an idea of the content length.

This is done because we condense the line spacing and use a smaller font on each of the files, but on the printer friendly and Word files in particular so that they take up fewer pages, less ink, and use less paper to print.

We're trying to save a few trees and a few resources.

But, it's the exact same text. Please note that the PDF tends to have the full number of pages that is claimed on the website and is also printable. We just offer the printable format option in order to take up less paper.

Q: I'm not receiving any emails from BookRags.

Q: What is a PDF file and how do I open it?
You may need to download or upgrade to the latest free version of Adobe Reader. While Adobe Reader comes with nearly every computer sold today, it may need to be updated or installed. It is available for free download at:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

After you download and install the software, you will be able to open the PDF file. The entire process should take about 5 minutes.

Q: How do I download a PDF so that I can view it?
Once you are logged into BookRags, go to a specific study guide that you are interested in. For example, Slaughterhouse-Five is available at:

http://www.bookrags.com/studyguide-slaughterhousefive/

Once on the page, click on "Download the PDF" from the navigation box to the left. At this time, it will ask you what to do with the file - Click on "Save":

Next, a menu will pop up (displayed below):

Now browse to the folder where to save the file. If you don't know where to put it, click the "Desktop" icon on the left bar of this menu to save the file to your Desktop.

After selecting the save location, click "Save" to download the file. Once the download is completed, it will be available on your desktop to view and print.

In order to view the file, you need to have a free software program called Adobe Acrobat Reader. While Adobe Acrobat Reader comes with nearly every computer sold today, it may not be installed on yours. However, the software may be freely downloaded here:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

After you download and install the software, you will be able to open the PDF file. For questions regarding downloading or installation of the Adobe software, you will need to contact Adobe directly.

Q: I receive a "File cannot be found" error message when I try to open the PDF.
Errors sometimes occur when trying to Open a PDF within the browser if you do not have the right plug-in. When you click on the "Download the PDF" link, you are presented with a dialog to "Open"/"View" the document or to "Save" the PDF. Select "Save" to store the file on your Desktop, then open the file from that location with the Adobe Reader.

You may also need to reboot your computer if you have recently installed new software, particularly Adobe Reader.

Do you have a recent version of Adobe Reader?

You can download the latest version of Adobe Reader at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

After you download and install the software, you will be able to open the PDF file. For questions regarding downloading or installation of the Adobe software, you will need to contact Adobe directly. Please note that difficulty with the Adobe software is not an issue with BookRags.

Do I have any other options?

You can always contact us, and we'll get back to you within 48 hours (often much, much sooner). If you need a print version of the study guide immediately, simply go to the 'printable version' listed just to the left of the PDF download. Please note that the printable version may appear shorter - we use a smaller font and condense the text so that this document uses fewer pages when you print.
