Brooks 'Freddy the Pig' series, everything by Zylpha Keatley Snyder (The Egypt Game, A Season of Ponies), Madeleine L'Engle (Arm of the Starfish, A Wrinkle in Time), Joan Aiken (The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, etc.), the 'Dark Is Rising' series by Susan Cooper, the 'Book of Three' series by Lloyd Alexander, Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, and C.S.
