Writer T. A. Barron, a self-described "wandering bard," has said in an on-line interview that is posted on the Amazon.com cyber bookstore home page, that his life has always been filled with words. The former Rhodes Scholar spent much of his youth on a Rocky Mountain ranch near Colorado Springs, Colorado, and his prose reflects a lifelong passion for nature and the great outdoors. "Wherever moss, trees, and streams are the first citizens--that's where I am from. Sense of place inspires and infuses everything I write," Barron told Amazon.com. "My very best ideas spring from life itself, especially the wonders of the natural world. If you open all your senses to their wildest, stretching your spiritual roots as deep as a great redwood, the universe beckons. Add a pinch of inspiration and anything is possible." What Barron has created with his inspirational recipe is an eclectic bibliography that includes a trilogy about a plucky teenage heroine named Kate Gordon, which melds science fiction, fantasy, and myth with environmental activism and good old-fashioned adventure; the first four novels in a projected five-part epic saga about the legendary magician Merlin; a Henry David Thoreau-inspired book about a hiking expedition the author undertook in the Colorado wilderness; a book about Rocky Mountain National Park; and a children's book about the death of Barron's own father.
