Scottie Pippen is a rare superstar, an outstanding basketball player who arrived from Arkansas as an almost complete unknown. He was not even recruited to play college basketball after graduating from high school. Instead he began his college days as a team manager, not knowing that some day he would be a part of the 1992 U.S. Olympic "Dream Team," considered the greatest basketball team ever assembled.
"Pippen is one of the rare athletes in professional basketball, which features the most athletic players in sport," wrote Sam Smith in the Chicago Tribune. "He's tall yet both strong and quick. He can jump with big men and outrun smaller ones.... He fills numerous roles for the Bulls. He's a playmaker and a rebounder, a scorer and defender. He is one of the few players in the game who can take the ball off the backboard on one end, travel the length of the court and finish with a score on the other end." Teamed with Michael Jordan, Pippen has helped make the Chicago Bulls one of the best teams in NBA history.
