Chants of "Rooooo-ah, Rooooo-ah" greeted Montreal Canadiens goaltender Patrick Roy whenever the goalie takes his place between the pipes at the Montreal Forum. Ever since Roy led the Canadiens to a Stanley Cup in his rookie season of 1986, he had been an institution in the French-speaking city. Roy won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player (MVP) in the 1986 National Hockey League (NHL) play-off's and repeated the feat in 1993 when he once again led the Canadiens to the Cup. In addition to his play-off heroics, Roy has won the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the NHL's best goaltender, three times. In 1996 he helped lead his new team, the Colorado Avalanche, win their first ever Stanley Cup.
