Dictionary of Literary Biography on Martin (Louis) Amis (page 2)

Five of his short stories were collected as Einstein's Monsters in 1987, and two collections of his journalism have appeared. This impressive body of work is infused with an original and inventive literary style that marries an eye for astute observation with a wicked satirical tongue. In twenty-five years of writing Amis has combined commercial success with critical acclaim. In Britain he has achieved a level of celebrity--and notoriety--second only to that of Salman Rushdie.

Martin Louis Amis was born in Oxford on 25 August 1949, the second son of Kingsley and Hilary Bardwell Amis. His early childhood was uneventful although his parents' frequent moves resulted in his changing schools frequently.
