The author of over fifty novels for juvenile and young adult readers as well as over two dozen novels for younger readers, Lynn Hall focuses on coming-of-age stories featuring dogs and horses. Her stories of young girls in transition deal with illness, parental control and neglect, sexuality, and friendships. Some of her best-known books, such as The Solitary, Just One Friend, Flying Changes, Flyaway, and Halsey's Pride, combine the best of a quick read for reluctant readers with the depth of an emotionally charged novel. A contributor to the St. James Guide to Young-Adult Writers noted that the problems of the characters in Hall's novels "are easily empathized with and involving.
