Wilfrid Scawen Blunt and Lady Anne Blunt, née Annabella Isabella Noel, later fifteenth Baroness Wentworth, were each descended from one of the families who had followed William the Conqueror from Normandy to England in 1066. Their marriage on 8 June 1869 at Saint George's Church in Hanover Square in London, after two months of engagement, placed Blunt, as he stated, "almost in the rank of the world's sublimities." As the granddaughter of George Gordon, Lord Byron, and Anna Milbanke, as well as the daughter of William King, Lord Lovelace, and Augusta Ada Byron, Lady Anne Blunt added £3,000 annually to Wilfrid Blunt's yearly income of £700 and also made it possible for him to share in literary fame.
