After 16 seasons in the NFL he holds the career record for touchdowns scored, and not many players who have tried to cover Rice ever questioned his speed. As a vital part of the San Francisco 49ers high-powered offense for 16 seasons, Rice set the league record for receiving touchdowns (176), and was the first player ever to top 19,000 receiving yards, establishing himself as one of the greatest players in NFL history. As New York Jets General Manager Dick Steinberg told the Sporting News: "From the standpoint of what he has accomplished, he is the best. There might have been players who were faster or maybe some who have had better hands [for catching the ball] but for the games he has won, the big plays he has made, I don't think you will get an argument if you call him the best....
