Authors and Artists for Young Adults on Jack Whyte

Scots-born Canadian writer Jack Whyte is the author of seven novels in the "Dream of Eagles" series, known in the United States as the "Camulod Chronicles." Whyte's books chronicle the events of fifth-century Britain, examining the sudden Roman military withdrawals and the abandonment of the country after nearly five centuries of occupation. The chaos following these events ultimately leads to a struggle for survival in Britain and culminates in the rise of the legendary warrior King Arthur. Whyte's series deals with the pre-Arthurian period and provides a four-generation family tree for the legendary king.

"The series begins with a bang," observed Brian Jacomb, writing in the Washington Post. Following the fortunes of a Roman soldier and sword maker who builds a hill fort that ultimately becomes Camelot, the story moves on from that point to Uther Pendragon, future father of Arthur, and other familiar tales from the Arthur legends, including his tutelage under the wizard Merlyn.
