Characterizing himself as an author who writes for and about teenage boys, Graham Salisbury has published three books: Blue Skin of the Sea, Under the Blood-Red Sun, and Shark Bait, all of which are set on the Hawaiian islands where Salisbury was raised and about which he has many memories. In addition to an exotic island setting, his fictional coming-of-age novels feature intricate interpersonal relationships that sometimes make the task of growing up more difficult that it otherwise would be. "I've thought a lot about what my job is now, or should be, as an author of books for young readers," Salisbury noted in an article in the ALAN Review. "I don't write to teach, preach, lecture, or criticize, but to explore. I write to make good use of the amazing English language. And if my stories show boys choosing certain life options, and the possible consequences of having chosen those options, then maybe I will have finally done something worthwhile."
While Salisbury entered the world in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania- -the date was April 11, 1944--generations of his family had lived far from the U.S.
