Literary Essays (1954) Eliot explained that, for Pound, "to discover a new writer of genius is as satisfying an experience as it is for a lesser man to believe that he has written a great work of genius himself. He has cared deeply that his contemporaries and juniors should write well; he has cared less for his personal achievement than for the life of letters and art." Pound had an almost infallible sense for talent and genius and a remarkable facility for making contact with major artists, often identifying them before anyone else.
