Dictionary of Literary Biography on Dario Bellezza (page 2)

Amid strains of riflusso (reflux), neo-hermeticism, neo-crepuscularism, and neo-experimentalism, the voice of Bellezza might seem to be lost amid the many consonant or dissonant voices of the 1970s and 1980s. Upon closer examination, though, one finds that Bellezza's place is among those writers who firmly restore the meaningful signification of words and make the subjective I once more the focus of the artist's creative attention. His place is also among poets such as Pasolini and Sandro Penna who deal with the question of homosexuality, seeing in that condition a metaphor for all the alienated, disenfranchised pariahs of modern society. In addition Bellezza echoes the criticisms leveled against a corrupt modern world by writers such as Giovanni Giudici, Giovanni Raboni, and Mario Lunetta.

Bellezza was born in Rome on 5 September 1944 and still resides there. His father was born in Rome and his mother in Taranto. Bellezza was a friend of Pasolini and Elsa Morante, to whom he has dedicated some of his works. Bellezza's first book of poems, Invettive e licenze (Invectives and Liberties), was published in 1971.
