"Of all Victorian woman poets, posterity has been kindest to Christina Rossetti," wrote Mary Arseneau in the Dictionary of Literary Biography. "Her poetry has never disappeared from view, and her reputation, though it suffered a decline in the first half of the twentieth century, has always been preserved to some degree." The advent of feminist criticism in the late twentieth century ensured that Rossetti would remain high in the canon of Victorian poets. She continues to be viewed as "one of the most important women poets writing in nineteenth-century England," according to Glenn Everett writing for the online Victorian Web. Rossetti, often compared to the slightly older Elizabeth Barrett Browning, is best remembered for her collection of children's verse Goblin Market and Other Poems, a collection that heralded the formation of the group known as the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, though some of her stories, essays, and religious poetry have also found readers throughout the twentieth century.
