Award-winning young adult author Cheryl Zach was walking on a street in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1995 when she "had an epiphany-- a moment when time seems to stop and you receive a sudden insight or revelation." As she explained in her essay in Something About the Author Autobiography Series, she realized, "I was living my dream. And I felt a surge of joy." Zach, who began her career writing young adult romance novels because of an agent's marketing decision and spent some time writing under a pseudonym for the "Sweet Valley High" series, may well be pleased about her success as a writer. Some of the series for which she has written have been very well received by young readers, and her work for the series "Southern Angels" has received positive critical attention. The first young adult author to be inducted into the Romance Writer's of America Hall of Fame, Zach has won praise for her ability to empathize with her characters, to write suspenseful works, and to integrate historical detail into the settings and plots of her novels.
