"Dad sees the ideal; he has a feeling for the long-term goals and ambitions. If mom agrees with him, she makes it happen. She takes care of the details. I take after Dad in that I can be very stubborn, but I'm also more patient than he is. My mom is very organized, and I guess I inherited that from her."
Rubin always liked things just so. "I was always picky about things," she admitted in Tennis. "Things just had to be in their right places in my room. If you went in my room and messed it up, I got really upset. I guess I went a bit too far sometimes, because even my mom would get annoyed with me."
Inherits love of game
Bernadette Rubin was a high-school basketball player and track and field participant. She also competed in tennis and passed on her love of the game to her children. Rubin's sister, LaShon, played four years on the tennis team at Southern University. Her brother, Ed Jr., plays tennis at Louisiana State University.
Rubin's parents played tennis on a court her father built in their backyard. One day, Chanda woke up from a nap and found the house was empty.
