C. S. Adler may have gotten a late start in publishing books for young readers--she was in her late forties when The Magic of the Glits, her first novel, was released--but she has more than made up for lost time with some forty books to her credit. Adler writes for middle graders and young adults, penning books about magic, family relations, and emotional problems. Praised for her characters, both male and female, who demonstrate humor as well as pathos, and for the upbeat tone of her writing, Adler tries to draw a realistic picture of the world in her books. A teacher turned writer, she brings to her books the real-life concerns of her intended readers, running a gamut of topics from dyslexia and skate boarding to latchkey kids and horseback riding.
Adler's award-winning books include The Magic of the Glits, In Our House Scott Is My Brother, The Shell Lady's Daughter, and With Westie and the Tin Man.
