Moviemaker. Born on September 17, 1965 in New York City, Singer grew up in suburban New Jersey, in Princeton Junction and Lawrenceville. He was not the outgoing sort of kid who has batches of friends, rather he was more introverted, playing the piano from an early age and loving movies and the Star Trek television show. At age twelve Singer became fascinated with still photography, setting up a darkroom in his home while other kids were out playing baseball. From his early teens he was shooting 8-mm and Super-8 movies in his backyard along with schoolmate Christopher McQuarrie, who later went on to write the Oscar-winning screenplay for The Usual Suspects.
