Arthur C. Clarke is author of over fifty books, six hundred articles and short stories, several television series, a number of screenplays, and has even acted in movies and commercials. Clarke, in his seventies, is an avid scuba diver who has spent most of his life living in remote Sri Lanka, and is in constant communication with the world through the satellite technology he is credited with inventing.

He is recipient of numerous prizes for science and science-fiction writing, and shared an Oscar nomination with Stanley Kubrick for the screenplay of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

A vocal advocate for world peace, Clarke has spoken at various conventions, before the U.S. Senate, N.A.S.A., the United Nations, and UNESCO. He is Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa near Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he supports, and is supported by, a large household of animals and friends.
